Like many of you did
till now, I will share my thoughts about this competition. Let's
start with the first item "competition". Art is not about winning or
losing, but about sharing your 'insides'. If someone likes it or
not is not the point, its all about your personal angle and
sometimes you reach one other human being, in most cases you
won't, that's what its all about. Almost everybody on this globe
has a meaning about 11/6, we are all affected. But artists have
the capacity to give a broader view on the subject, put it on an
other level than mourning or memorizing it. We all do mourn, don't
misunderstand me!
Secondly the title of this project is
'netart'. What netart is, is subject of discussion, which is a good
thing. For me netart is something different than having an
exhibitions in a gallery or a museum. The medium netart has
specific qualities which other mediums doesn't have. A lot of
what you see on the internet about art can be qualified as
"documentary": its an image of a work of art that exists in real
life like a painting, photograph, sound or a sculpture. Nothing
offensive about that but its not 'netart'. Its a way of sharing
works made in real life with other people using the medium
'internet', a document of a work of art. But when using the
medium 'netart' as a new way of communication, you'll have to deal
with the specific aspects of the medium. To be more specific, works
created with the computer are not by nature netart. The machine just
helped you to create something, like you use a camera to create an
image. In netart 'the machine' is part of the work itself. It
can't exist without. Compare it with a book where you have to
turn over a page to now how things will continue. You are
literally asked to participate not just sit there and watch it
like the tv. In netart the computerscreen is the final product
and you will have to click or listen to reveal the whole work.
Static pieces of work are not the case in netart. These thoughts
came up viewing the submissions.
