Where's Your Head At by sakana sato   Dear artists, "Why Art on the Net?" seems to be constantly repeating in this forum. But what's the "specific" reason for? Or in terms of Art on the Net what issue is untouchable from all works in the list? I hope this question will be fruits from the event... And what's next? points I would list is here: --- 1)origin of Internet technology The Internet technology is developed under the pressure of cold war. Also 9.11 is symbolic phase of the first (my opinion) realization of decenterization widely used. 2)issue of copyright and left Aura, W.Benjamin mentioned has been completely blown up. Net is the place somewhere beyond the mechanical reproduction but digital reproduction. This is also (unfortunately) uncertainty of financial success for artists. 3)death of authors/anonymity Related no.2, the definition of artists could have been attacking from the stance of new form of "Art". 4)autonomy of moral The interesting point is that no (initial) entries dealing with cheep crappy joke even artists could have hidden themselves. What "morality" is emerging from the chaotic situation could be an issue. 5)net.video? Net is also new place for moving images.
